X, as I said in a recent post on this topic I do not think a government, even a democratically elected government, has a special privileged moral position. If it is wrong for me or you then it is wrong for the government. The government represents the people, but not perfectly. Even if it did perfectly represent the people as a whole, the fact that a majority wants to do something wrong does not make it right.

It, in your opinion, taxes are justified because "the government is the people", would this apply to non democratic governments as well? A government may just be the group that could organize a coup most efficiently. Does the fact that they can defeat the previous government and scare off or put down any opposition that has so far manifested give them the right to take from everyone?
