To add what Kate had said. If you can ask for delivery, then you do not have to do that, by law the broker can not lend out your shares. they can only lend out your shares when you borrowed margin to buy the stock. In that case, you can not ask them to deliver the certificate. (Well you can ask but your broker will say no!)
