Military weapons should not be on the street, period. And concelaed weapons permit should be limited to those who have damn good reason to fear for their lives, like diamond merchants. I share that view with Reagan and Guliani.

The bottomline with weaponry permits is that the Police and military has to be better armed than citizens. If not, then extremist rightwing types could start shooting up or blowing up federal and local buildings, kill cops and federal agents, break into Guard armories and try to install some kind of neo-fascist government. The only reason they're not talking about it now is we already have a neo-fascist government, but Bush-Cheney are on the way out, with extreme prejudice, so expect the far right to get restless again in future years. Remember Oklahoma City. McVeigh was in many ways a typical NRA extremist. Also, watch out for those Minutemen. They're itching to start shooting Mexicans.

As for guys who live in places like Alaska, they can get by with single shot rifles. If they want to fire machine-guns let them join the military. We need more troops in Iraq anyway, and the NRA membership should be the ones putting themselves in harm's way. Otherwise they're all talk, no action.
