A flat MACD means that the difference between the fast and slow exponential moving averages is constant, that is, they are trending together. I don't believe this gives a trading signal. OT: The best thing I've found on MACD is Gerard Appel's 1985 report, "The Moving Average Convergence-Divergence Trading Method". It has all kinds of insights not usually covered elsewhere.
