(NASDAQ:NTAP - news), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, has been selected by TotalFinaElf to support a multitude of exploration and production applications in the petroleum industry. TotalFinaElf was using direct-attached storage and storage area networks to manage and access critical data, but is migrating to Network Appliance's network-attached storage model to deliver lower maintenance overhead, meet increasing consolidation needs, and provide the performance necessary to maintain a leadership position in the energy market.
TotalFinaElf is using Network Appliance(TM) solutions in an Oracle® database environment running a host of exploration and production applications. Jing Wen, senior systems administrator at TotalFinaElf commented, ``Access to data is vitally important to our focus on exploration-production projects. Our team of geoscientists utilizes this critical information to make rapid estimates of the quality and quantity of hydrocarbons to be found in a volume of earth. Network Appliance storage solutions are powerful and easy to deploy, require little administration, and scale rapidly to meet our data management requirements.''
