FWIW when you quote Williams, Weslayan, Colby - you've chosen a significant portion of the elite private small colleges. They are very highly regarded. Unfortunately, it gets worse. If you look at Stanford, you see the Mac being quietly phased out. Check out the library - no Apples at all. The problem began with the instability of system 7. Then the Apple came up to find out what was wrong. Instead of asking questions, they gave a lot of arrogant answers. The reaction was "whatever", and it has declined steadily. Now I hear of PowerPC's being booted up with RedHat Linux, because it is much more stable, and the Unix programs can be ported from platform to platform, including SGI which run away and hide from the PowerPC's. And finally, I hear of internet content consultants scrapping their Macs with the next upgrade.
Give RedHat a try. Good GUI. Easy to use. |
