Win98 will not be huge, but PC sales growth is still very strong. That is what matters more than OS upgrades per se.

The next big software drivers of hardware purchases will probably be related to net stuff and speech recognition/natural lang processing. (When the latter really gets going -- it hasn't yet -- hardware demands will explode. Probably 98 or 99. That will offer such a productivity boost that the additional hardware cost will be negligible on a net basis.)
