Pete, The one-handed side press used to be called the bent press. Yes, I use the 44 pound bar and very little in the way of additional weights. <g>

The thing that makes this such a great exercise is that it works one entire side of the upper body. Obviously, triceps, shoulders and pecs are involved. But if you do the movement as Pavel Tsatsouline describes, it works the obliques, upper abs and lats like nothing else. I also feel a burn in my traps, though I can't explain what they do during the lift.

It is a very awkward lift, which are the types I favor. Awkward means good things to the little support muscles that don't get worked. And it is a mutha for the grip, too.

I do know that the fella who invented the 20 squat program has had many knee operations, but I don't which came first, the program or the operations.
