Melissa and growthvalue,
Yeah youre right about the Psft acquisition strategy - forgot that. Im just hoping psft doesnt acquire Ariba after investing, that would be a mistake imo.

Anyway just in general Im glad to see these partnerships based on the functionality it offers to the customer base. A lot of SCM technology transcends the demand/supply continuum, so even though technically SCM is mfg technology, a lot of companies view it as a mkt package based on the "demand planner" and some other components to the system. So, the direction in ERP is the integration of front office and back office technologies - this will allow process improvements to mfg, etc.

The thing is, Sap and Baan already have front office packages so psft was out in the cold here. But you know what happens when a vendor tries to be everything to everybody (the Sap approach). This way, with an alliance, Psft has something to sell and at the same time the front office players can develop autonomously.

I also think that front office may not make sense as an acquisition target now that I think of it. Im kind of in awe of the psft strategic planning dept.

Michelle
