The rumor about a new Iomega product sounds like a mix of true and false. Yes, Iomega will come out with new products.

1. Will there be one at Comdex November?

2. Will it have anything to do with DVD?

On point 2, I would say no. I expect Iomega's next product to be a CD-recorder, perhaps licensed from HP or Panasonic.

The arguments on this subject that I have read on MF seem completely irrelevant. "Iomega has not optical experience." You don't need any to license a product. "Iomega has no patents on DVD." The OLD Iomega was techno driven. The NEW Iomega is Mareting AND technology driven. A CD-R product with Iomega label would sell well.

Iomega WILL get into DVD, but we won't see any real products till late 97.

Anyone want to guess what name Iomega will assign their CD-R product?
Let's see... Zip and Jaz are both very ACTIVE names. Perhaps something refering to the optical or multimedia nature of CD-R.
Lightspeed is probably already taken. There's already far to many Laser-xxx products.

I like the title of a Tangarine Dream CD: Optical Race.
