OTOT
AARP is basically a marketing organization under the guise of an organization dedicated to helping seniors, and as most marketing groups are wont to do, they do send a lot of "offers" through the mail. .... that being said, both my wife and I buy our health insurance from United Health Care via AARP.

We used to buy our health insurance via my employer and was also through United Health Care (albeit a different division of UHC).

The two major distinctions between AARP UHC coverage and the employer SUBSIDIZED UHC:

1) the AARP cost is significantly lower; and

2) UHC customer assistance with any and all issues with employer based was excellent while that from AARPs UHC is pretty much zip although the actual benefits are the same.

So for us, AARP does save us over 50% and their year over year increases are no where near what I was seeing with the employer based.

Luck
