RESEARCH ALERT-UBS cuts Nortel, Cisco, Juniper
(UPDATE: All figures in U.S. dollars)

OTTAWA, March 5 (Reuters) - UBS Warburg cut its earnings estimates and targets for Nortel Networks Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. while slashing its stock target for Juniper Networks Inc. citing its belief that telecom equipment revenue growth will fall below 10 percent in 2001.

Analyst Nikos Theodosopoulos cut his estimates for (NYSE:NT - news) (Toronto:NT.TO - news), the world's No. 1 supplier of fiber-optic network equipment, amid growing signs of weakening sales. The analyst reduced 2001 earnings estimates to 50 cents per share from 72 cents and 2002 estimates to 80 cents from 90 cents. The stock target was reduced to $22 from $27.

Earnings estimates for Cisco (NasdaqNM:CSCO - news) were trimmed to 62 cents per share from 64 cents for 2001 and to 73 cents per share from 74 cents in 2001. The stock target was cut to $30 from $40.

Earnings estimates for Juniper Networks (NasdaqNM:JNPR - news) were unchanged at $1.02 in 2001 and $1.20 in 2002, but Theodosopoulos cut his stock target to $100 from $250.

($1 equals $1.55 Canadian)
