Unfortunately, you are correct. However, the same scenario plays out in about 6 other states where Gore won and recounts of ALL ballots may shift the electoral balance to Bush EVEN IF FL were to be Gore's....
You see, the hope is that all the inadequacies of the system balance out. There are no guarantees in democracy, just the hope of balance. The outcome is a balanced one, just not one that a majority of the people are happy with. Sadly, should Gore have won, the same would be said for his victory.
The SC's decision is designed to, hopefully, ameliorate some of these problems in the future. Unfortunately, it was too late to be of consquence in this election. |
