Belgian Aerospace Engineering Company Deploys IPStor Software for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

HERSTAL, Belgium--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 2006--FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading developer of network storage software solutions, today announced that Techspace Aero, a leading Belgian aerospace company, has chosen FalconStor's IPStor® software to address its business continuity and disaster recovery challenges. FalconStor channel partner SYSTEMAT implemented the IPStor solution at Techspace Aero.

The aerospace company's two existing Fibre Channel SANs were managed separately in different locations, with each site independently responsible for its data backup. Repeated attempts to consolidate, connect and leverage the SANs for transparent failover and replication to each other for disaster recovery proved ineffective with various storage solutions. Wanting to connect and replicate its SANs, Techspace Aero turned to SYSTEMAT, who recommended and implemented FalconStor's IPStor software.

"We had unsuccessfully tried several solutions to help us link and mirror our SANs and give us the disaster recovery and business continuity that we needed, and that we felt we should be able to achieve with two SANs in different locations," said Jean-Marc Renson, IS Operation Manager, Techspace Aero. "SYSTEMAT brought the IPStor solution to our attention. This elegant and reliable solution is fully scaleable and provides all the benefits of our list of recommendations including lower costs and time savings."

Techspace Aero has configured its two appliances running IPStor software as an active cluster, enabling transparent failover and synchronous mirroring of data between the two SANs, something that had previously eluded the company. The FalconStor-powered solution provides improved business resilience in the event of a disaster, and guarantees greater data uptime and quality of service to the company's 1200 employees in case of unexpected hardware outage or planned maintenance.

iSCSI has replaced Fibre Channel at Techspace Aero, and is being used for Storage Provisioning. The servers connected to the appliances have been thoroughly optimized, resulting in a general 30 percent improvement in performance. The company is not only saving time but also benefits from increased data security by no longer having to use its previous manual process -with the associated downtime- to synchronize data.

IPStor's hardware agnosticity was also a critical element in the smooth migration of the company's data from its existing HP MA 8000 and 12000 disk subsystems to two new EMC CX700 disk subsystems. Due to its exceptional overall level of satisfaction with IPStor, IT managers at Techspace Aero also decided to use some of IPStor's optional additional functionality. All of the company's storage architecture has been unified using the IP Trunking option, Real-Time Antivirus option and NAS Protocol. Real-Time Antivirus is a layer of antivirus scanning capabilities within IPStor software that employs the advanced technology of Trend Micro.

"SYSTEMAT's knowledge of IPStor software and features is exceptional and has enabled them to be very successful in helping to meet the storage requirements of Techspace Aero," said Vincent Pajot, FalconStor Regional Director for the Southern Region. "The storage burden of Techspace Aero's IT administrators has eased, especially now with a solid disaster recovery strategy in place."

During the virtualization process, Techspace Aero is also using the IPStor software Storage Service Enabler, providing a seamless method for adopting its previous storage array LUNs into its current IPStor-powered storage environment. This was done with minimal downtime, without loss of data, and without needing to perform resource intensive copy jobs. The company's existing data is now fully virtualized and replicated and is configured to take advantage of all key FalconStor storage services.
