The Los Angeles Daily News reported that Hackett will be fired on Sunday, ending his unsuccessful three-year tenure. Hackett is in the middle of a five-year contract and the Daily News is reporting that he will receive a buyout of $750,000. Hackett is just 19-18 over three seasons since replacing the fired John Robinson in 1997. The Trojans are just 11-13 over the past two seasons. Hackett was fired once before as a college coach. He was dismissed by Pittsburgh in 1992 after posting a 13-20-1 record over three seasons. He was offensive coordinator for the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs for five seasons before being hired by USC. USC would be the third Pac-10 school looking for a coach after the season. Arizona State fired Bruce Snyder earlier this month and Arizona coach Dick Tomey surprisingly announced his resignation on Friday. << - ce -
