Its a little worse than that, I think. I heard a comment on CNBC today that really upset me. It was by the guy on the floor (I guess Maria is taking a holiday). He said that today's lackluster market was being driven by stocks with special situations, like Eastman Kodak and Compaq ("for cutting their prices to remain competative").

The inference was that Compaq's and other makers of low cost boxes would have very low profit margins. This is scary because it completely ignores the area of Compaq's largest revenues, servers. This kind of shallow compartmentalized thinking (or lack thereof) is why this market behaves so crazy at times.

Anyone have the data handy that shows the sources of Compaq's revenues and associated profit margins. It would be nice to see again if readily available.
