ATI Technologies (ATYT) supplies video cards:
ATI Technologies is all the rage. The leading maker of graphics accelerator chips sells 3-D RAGE integrated graphics accelerator chips that incorporate 3-D and 2-D graphics and video acceleration. ATI makes products for PC (XPERT@Work, XPERT@Play) and Macintosh (XCLAIM, NEXUS) platforms. The ImpacTV2 chip allows users to connect a PC to a TV for games or presentations. Users can also view TV signals through a PC, and vice-versa, with the All-in-Wonder accelerator board. In an effort to move away from complete outsourcing of its chip production, ATI has begun a customer-owned tooling initiative to alleviate its dependence on full-service fab plants. Customers include Apple, Dell, Gateway, and Sun Microsystems.

It is very easy for vendors to switch video cards in PC's. Not so easy to tear the guts out of a flat panel display. <grin>. ---- Dave |
