If they win locally the entire State gets hand-counted, and could still lose.

Blame for the either Party's loss must be established as either crooked politics in the voting or the counting.
People faults.
Blame can never be attributed to the fact that rural counties voted against the heavy handed politics of the Democratically-run King County.

Nor the fact that Demmocrats were so certain of victory that some did not bother to vote.
Or being the richer in-power party, Democrats were more likely to be in Vegas, vacationing at the SC beaches , or at Vegas and thus failed to vote.

There cannot be anything wrong with the Democratic selection of Kerry to run, which may have caused a backlash.
No, none of these thing are relevant. We need to count on experienced newsmen at the NYT or Dan Rather to tell us what went wrong here. They are far enough away to see the BIG picture.
