self protection isn't a basic human need unless it's used for survival which is the most basic of human needs.......

There are no aspects of human life that are not effected by the need to protect oneself. Even lovers protect themselves from things like exposure, rejection, or humiliation. Do you lay your wealth around in stacks of bills because you don't need to protect it? Do you lock your doors?
only police should carry guns.....

You live in a sheltered NY gated compound so you figure you can speak for everyone else. That comes across as smug and insensitive when we think about how there were no cops around as16 million people are violently slaughtered every ten years or so.
