And you're quite right. I take it you were there?? A buddy of mine who was stationed in Saigon got tasked with a "special mission" to pick up a prisoner after the big show. He recalled how miserable those poor gyrenes had it up there and how he was forced to become a grunt for 3 days until the paperwork was done and he could find the quickest transport outta there.

He had been in some pretty tight scrapes before, he said, but never had the "pucker factor" been quite so intense as those few days in Khe Sahn.

My hat goes off to those who endured and survived what could have been an American Dien Bien Phu.

The only positive aspect of the Tet offensive was wiping out essentially the complete VC infrastructure in in the South. After that, Vietnam was primarily an invasion of the south by the north.
