Here is a statistic to consider.

During today's trading, the volume on the NYSE and Nasdaq from 9:30 to 2PM EST was 1.010 billion and 1.089 billion respectively.

During the last two hours of selling, the volumes on both the NYSE and Nasdaq EXCEEDED the previous 4 1/2 hours of trading (1.020 billion and 1.217 billion respectively).

So much for a summer rally.
