You know - I think half the reason our stock price isn't double from here is that NO ONE seems to be able to get the call letters right...who the heck is S-A...its SFA!!!

S-A invests in Alloptic to spur fiber development

Atlanta -- Scientific-Atlanta said it will invest as much as $8 million in passive optical network developer Alloptic Inc., claiming the move will expedite the development of "last mile" fiber optic solutions for video, voice and advanced, residential Internet accessservices.

PON technology serves as a point-to-multipoint feeder that extends optical fiber from neighborhood network hubs. Eventually, that technology-which increases users' bandwidth between a factor of 10 and 100 over today's standard data access rates-will help to foster fiber-to-the-home, the companies said.

"High-speed PON technologies have enormous benefits in driving bandwidth higher and fiber access closer to end-users at home," said S-A Vice President of Marketing and Network Architectures Paul Connolly, in a press release.

S-A and Alloptic also cut a joint development and sales deal involving Gigabit Ethernet Residential PON fiber access products, which will be developed and manufactured over the next five years.
