Thank you, Rick, for the fill-in and help in understanding the process. It occurred to me that a strapped-on helmet or helmet-integrated-into-G-suit would follow the movements of the body in exact parallel, so that there'd be little deviance in movement of the head vs the HMD's beam.

Short of expoxying it to the pilot's head I suppose there'll always be some difference in alignment due to a minute variance in the momentum of the head vs the helmet and that the "exit pupil" is required to overcome that. Please feel free to comment on that if I've got it wrong, and thanks again.
