I agree with the concept of upholding American traditions; however, freedom of religion is one of our most important human rights. Why didn't George Washington place his hand on the Constitution of the U.S. when taking his oath of office? It makes sense because every American supports that precious bill of rights, while we currently contain a population that believes in a great diversity of religions. Mass immigration creates these cultural difficulties.

P.S. I understand the only reason Teddy Roosevelt didn't take the oath on a bible was because it immediately followed McKinley's assassination, therefore there wasn't one available at the time.
