Lieberman / Chafee, Spector, Snowe

I've been thinking about how the Democrats treatment of Lieberman compares to Republican treatment of their "Liebermans". I've seen the claim made elsewhere that Republicans are as devoted to ferreting out and defeating political heretics as the Dems, yet ... I don't see that.

Republicans have a name for Republican pols out of sync with the mainstream of the party - RINO's - Republicans in Name Only. And if you listen to talk radio, you can hear callers fuming about them, saying we need to get rid of them.

Yet, I note that Bush personally saved Spector from defeat by the more conservative Toomey in Spector's last election. Also in the last election, the Republican party helped Chafee hold on to his Senate seat in order for the party to hold the Senate.

Just found this comparison interesting.
