from National NORML.. A forthcoming review in the British Journal of Pharmacology emphasizes the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of cannabinoids as they pertain to Alzheimer's disease. AD is among the family of neurodegenerative diseases -- like ALS, MS, and Parkinson's -- that some investigators believe may be modified by cannabis. As noted by the authors, "Cannabinoids offer a multi-faceted approach for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease by providing neuroprotection and reducing neuroinflammation, whilst simultaneously supporting the brain's intrinsic repair mechanisms by augmenting neurotrophin expression and enhancing neurogenesis." Quite an endorsement, with therapeutic implications that extend far beyond AD.
