You asked the wrong guy, since I go out all the time without a phone. However, if I wanted to have a way to communicate, I do have lots of alternative ways to do so, such as VHF (near shore), SSB, ORBCOMM, SATCOM, and EPIRB if I really get in trouble. Would I like to have a Globalstar phone? Sure. Is the marine comm maket large enough to grow this company? No, they would/will do much better with cars, aircraft, and trucks.
