Unfortunately, protecting the children is what got us into this mess. When the government made more money available to mother's on welfare when they had additional children, what do you think happened? Having babies on welfare became a career. Many of the welfare mother's don't value their children the same way you and I value ours. I think the state of florida passed a law a while back limiting money to welfare mother's. If they have additional babies, they do not get any additional money. I think this is a good first step. The state has followed up with more penalties if the welfare recepient doesn't get the education or the job training that he or she is supposed to get. Hopefully the elected officials will continue to work to abolish welfare, but I suspect this will take several generations.
