CISCO TO BUY GEOTEL: FROM DOW JONES THIS MORNING

Cisco Systems To Buy GeoTel Commun In $2B Stk Swap

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) signed a
definitive agreement to buy GeoTel Communications Corp. (GEOC) for
stock.

In a press release Tuesday, Cisco said it will exchange 0.5138 common
shares of its stock for every outstanding share and option of GeoTel. Based
on Cisco shares' closing price of 177.75 Monday, the deal has a value of
about $2 billion.

Cisco said the acquisition will be be accounted for as a pooling of interests
and its expected to close in the fourth quarter, pending regulatory and
GeoTel shareholder approval.

Cisco said the acquisition requires an antitrust review.

Cisco's board has approved the acquisition.

The company said the acquisition "is an extension of our commitment to open
voice technology."

GeoTel provides telecommunications software.

Cisco makes router, switching equipment and software for computer
networks.

OK, I was wrong, CISCO was not after ASPT after all. But why pay $2bn for Geotel if you can have ASPT cheaper. John: does this make ASPT in play? Is ASPT too difficult to swallow?. doesn't have ASPT the VOIP technology big players are looking for?

Overall I interpret this as good news for ASPT share prices but kind of sad that LU and CSCO voted for other co's.
