This guy got it right.

Mr. Fogel said Canada's more aggressive stand at the UN provides moral support for Israel, rather than having any practical effect. Yup.

Nonetheless it gives me great pleasure to see Alan Rock delivering that speech. I'm sure every word caused him near mortal pain. He got the job because he's a competitor with Paul Martin and an albatross around the neck of the Liberal party in even slightly conservative parts of Canada - he's responsible for the utterly stupid gun control legislation Canadians are dealing with.

I'm sure he's one of those guys who believes we should determine the "root causes" of terrorism and be nice.

Paul Martin told him what to say. Rock isn't unintelligent and it might be that having to look close up at the unbridled moral corruption at the UN may have a good effect on him. But I'm not holding my breath.

Paul Martin comes from Montreal which has had quite a bit of nasty palestinian driven antisemitic activity and don't think for a second this doesn't have an effect on his policies because it does. Jewish Montreal votes Liberal. Jewish Toronto votes Liberal. In any case pro Israel policy would suit Martin's own attitude anyway.

It also steals a plank from the Conservative party platform.
