he Power of Renewable Energy

Just as we’re diversifying our vehicle propulsion systems with pure-electric, hybrid or gasoline-powered options, we’re doing the same with our energy portfolio at our facilities, using solar and landfill gas to wind and waste-to-energy.

Renewable energy now accounts for nearly one tenth of our energy consumption in North America.

Globally, we use 105 megawatts of solar, landfill gas, hydro, and waste to energy, moving us closer to our 125 megawatt renewable energy goal by 2020. To give an idea of our commitment, the solar arrays at 19 of our facilities would fill the space of 104 American football fields.

An 8.15MW solar array on GM’s Rüsselsheim facility is one of Europe's largest - equivalent to the area of 32 soccer fields
