There seems to be a general apprehension around most of the chip companies supplying network or telecom applications. The Alcatel announcement appears to be keying the feeling that business may be slowing resulting in tougher competition for sales, lower margins and slower growth. Perhaps you can add in BRCM's announcement that they have a chip that will allow telephony through cable modems.

My question is how AMCC stacks up competitively with other chip companies, particularly VTSS. On one hand, AMCC seems lower-priced, but VTSS seems to be cranking out of its new production facilities and may have improved cost/performance advantages. I'd appreciate any discussion of how the competitive picture looks going forward.
