Larry, CRS, thanks for the info on IDT. I did call the company yesterday and ended up buying a calling card. I guess there are only a few local numbers in the US so until they get more of these numbers the rate will be $.13/min. But when they end up installing a local number in your area it brings the cost down to $.08/min, which to me is a fantastic deal. So what is interesting is if you are traveling you will need to call the company to get the local number to get the best rate. Then if you are in a phone booth you need to deposit the $.20 or I guess $.30 now. Interesting stuff. Also they plan to add a bunch of features to the card to allow for conference calling, voice mail, etc.

On the net2phone I got the feeling that it is being used mostly for people who call out of the country. The US rate is $.10 off peak and $.15 on peak which is not that cometitive IMO. But for people who need to call overseas I'm not sure but some of the rates seemed pretty competative. Another nice thing about it is you don't need to change carriers.

There basic phone service is no advantage to have. It's pretty much what MCI offers $.12/min, and they have no access numbers for lata calls whereas MCI has them and it's only $.04/min, more than half what Pac Bell charges. So if you call in the lata then there is no reason to go to IDT. Anyway, that's what I came up with.

By the way the website has a lot of misinformation. The calling card rates for example are almost double what the guy quoted me on the phone. I can't figure out why they would do this. Sure doesn't help sell their products on the internet.

Now that I'm following this stock I will move all my messages over to that board. Sorry for all the posts not specific to Vocaltec.
