Perhaps it's an ego thing. Or Why I'll never be a public handicapper<g> A few winters back, I met my track buds at MTH on the day of the Donn Handicap at GP. When I arrived, they asked me what I thought of the Donn. With no hesitation at all and loud enough for everyone to hear within 50 feet, I said "There are 11 horses in this race, and the only one with NO SHOT is Pistols And Roses". P&R had won the race at a big price the previous year and repeated, paying somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 for a $2 bet. I've got several more just like it<gg>.
