Peaceful, I too have noticed the spread widen at certain price levels, but VOLUME overcomes the type of games that this seems to suggest. When the dam breaks, and demand at successively higher prices is evident, the MMs must, I repeat, must go with the flow. At low volumes, with only a few "players" trying to get cheap shares by selling off minute amounts and buying in big when the frightened follow in their selling, these games are rampant. They will be overcome by either: 1. Big volume on the demand side = higher share price, or 2. Big volume on the sell side = lower share price.

I vote for number 1.
