Rolling Blackouts Sweep Over SoCal

SAN DIEGO - The hot weather and the loss of a key transmission line has prompted officials to order rolling blackouts in Southern California.

Power officials said about 500,000 were affected by the blackouts in Los Angeles and Orange counties, but NBC 7/39 received reports from viewers in North County, who said that they were also being affected. SDG&E confirmed that some blackouts were taking place in San Diego County. CAL-ISO ordered the blackouts just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, and they lasted a little over an hour. Before they ended, however, they made a mess of thing from some North County commuters. For example, the traffic signals were out at the intersection of Olive Avenue and Melrose Drive in Vista, creating a backup all the way to the state Highway 78.
