I have a friend (who makes the relationship a challenge from time-to-time because of his unique views) who once said to me "those people deserve what they are getting (in reference to a third world country starving to death). He said it is the law of nature...the strong should survive. Although I worked for him at the time I couldn't resist informing him that the region he was referring to was once very fertile land. The climate had changed and the people were simply stranded. They had done NOTHING to bring about the lack of rain (no river projects, no deforestation...nothing). I asked him to think if it happened here in the U.S. would he be of the same opinion. We have been blessed beyond reason (at least a majority of the U.S. has). Now it is up to us to find a solution to help those who are less fortunate. Not because it may happen to us one day...but...because it is the right thing to do. PAX T.R.
