Bharat Forge, the flagship company of the Kalyani group, has recorded a net profit of Rs. 34.23 crores for the first half of the current financial year. This is an increase of 99 per cent from Rs. 17.22 crores during the corresponding period last year, Mr. B. N. Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of the company, said here.

The net sales in the first half of the current financial year increased to Rs. 286.20 crores from Rs. 214.54 crores in 1998-99, an increase of 33 per cent. The gross profit has also increased by 59 per cent while exports have increased by 63 per cent compared to the corresponding period the previous year. The exports are placed at Rs. 56.18 crores compared to Rs. 34.56 crores in the corresponding previous period.

Mr. Kalyani said the growth in domestic demand for medium and heavy commercial vehicles contributed to the company's performance. He said the second half of the current financial year looked promising. On the export front, he added the strong demand for the company's products was likely to sustain, particularly from the US and Europe.
