WATCH: Confederate activist explains why it’s ‘anti-Semitic’ to remove racist symbol from Mississippi flag David Edwards DAVID EDWARDS rawstory.com 12 OCT 2015 AT 12:43 ET A pro-Confederate activist who showed up to counter-protest in Jackson over the weekend said that people who wanted to remove the Rebel flag symbol from the Mississippi state flag appeared to be anti-Semitic and un-Christian. At a “Take It Down March Rally” in Jackson on Sunday, Republican state Rep. Jenny Horne of South Carolina told about 400 protesters that the time had come to take down state-sanctioned Confederate symbols. “It is a new South. The economic development opportunities that Mississippi is missing out on — you don’t even know it, but it’s costing all citizens jobs,” Horne explained. Civil Rights Activist Myrlie Evers-Williams compared the marchers to activists in the 1960s. “I look at you today I see strength. I see courage. I see determination,” Evers-Williams said. Counterprotesters told told WLGBT that they came out to oppose attacks on the Confederate flag. Craig Haden, who was one of three counterprotesters spotted at the event, suggested that some activists might hate the flag because they were biased against Jews. “If they’re offended I question their motivations because the blue in the Confederate battle flag represents St. Andrew who was an apostle of Jesus Christ and he was Jewish and makes me wonder if they’re anti-Semitic,” Haden opined. Organizers of the event said that they hoped to build support for Initiative 55, which would remove all references to the Confederacy from the Mississippi state flag.
