You can leave a USB flash drive plugged in. For most cases, plugging it into your computer will be faster than the router, but the router will make it easier to network. Another issue is USB 2.0 vs 3.0. Version 3 is faster, but you have to have both a 3.0 port and a 3.0 USB flash drive to get the increased speed. * * *
