'm looking into investing in a computer manufacturer, but not cpq, because like intc, they are not concentrating on the sub $1000 segment of the market. What companie(s) IYO will emerge as the leader(s) in the sub $1000 pc (not network pc)?

miklosh,
Check the facts. In August, Compaq had 72% of the sub-$1,000 market. The closest competitor for this market was Packard Bell NEC, with 16%. All reported in Monday's Investor's Business Daily. Also, DEC is entering the sub-$1,000 corporate market with a 16BM, 1.2GB, 166MHz K6 system for $899, 14-in monitor $100 extra. Also, Intel says they are changing their product line to participate in the sub $1,000 market.
