That article is pretty funny. It says that if you write programs that use the windows API, they only work on Windows, duhhh.

If I write programs that use Oracles DB API's will these apps work against Informix? Do Oracle's API's change? All DB vendors rely on the fact that their users are locked in... Where is the call for a consistent database API? What about Database API standards so I'm not locked into a single vendor?

When do you think Oracle will be providing the source code for Oracle8 (almost an OS), in accordance with the Open Source Code movement? Not likely...
