George W Bush has urged Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf to take new steps to rein in extremists. Dear Tim, You can reduce the problems in Central Asia into two words: oil and gas. Pakistan needs oil and gas. And, in the past, the US wanted a run an oil and gas pipeline across Afghanistan because of sanctions on Iran. Initially, we supported the Taliban, because they were going to support a pipe line but we couldn't count on them. Does India have oil and gas reserves? I doubt it. So the United States will support Pakistan, I believe. JMOP
