Supercycle (I) is nearly 11 years old and has gained nearly 2500 S&P points. We are in the very early stages of Cycle wave V of Supercycle wave (I).
Wave fives have the largest possible range in an impulse. This wave five so far points to a longer than common five. It could reach a length equal to 666 to the end of Cycle wave III at 2940 added to the end of wave IV at 2346. This would take us to 4620 S&P to end Supercycle (I). It should take another 9 to 10 years.
Buy and Hold Investors, no doubt, will get excited with a forecast like this. Perma bulls can relax and ride higher ignoring the inevitable corrections that will take place along the way.
Traders, on the other hand, have a different interest. Traders work at taking profits in the shorter term bull and bear moves that continuously take place as the market moves from the bottom left to the upper right of a long term chart.
Some of these bear moves will be large enough to be very profitable. You can choose to trade only large degree corrections or you can be a more active trader and trade the shorter degree corrections.
One thing is for certain, the market corrects and gives the opportunity for the trader to profit no matter which direction the market is going. It is estimated that the market goes up 60% of the time and goes down 40% of the time. This makes it essential that the trader plays both long and short if he wishes to ultimately beat the averages.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a Buy and Hold Investor. Eventually, you will profit. A long term chart of the S&P moves from the bottom left to the upper right. Buy and Hold Investing has a huge following lead by perma bull gurus who stick to the long term chart and are right 60% of the time.
The next real bloodbath may not take place for another 9 to 11 years but it will come. Supercycle (I) will be followed by Supercycle (II) just as night follows day. So even Buy and Hold Investors have to be market timers to some extent. You cannot live forever. You do not want to suffer a bloodbath without decades to recover
