Ron, the trials in the UK involve an electricity company called Norweb (North Western Electricity Board). They have confirmed that they can provide internet access to households over the power lines themselves. I understand from local press here in the UK that they have had to change frequencies as the data has been causing disruption to emergency services radio frequencies.
