Parenting, to be done right, demands major sacrifices, with the career, the social life, and a whole lot of other things as well

And it is not going to happen for an unknown percentage of the Families. So any institutional approach by the Government has to be based on that fact. But our Educational system is based on a lot of things that are just not true. Willing Parents and eager children, for instance. Some of them are pissed their kids are at school instead of down in the basement where they belong, watering the Marijuana plants. :>)

We used to let kids drop out when they either could not or would not learn. Now we force them to set in classrooms they hate, and it is no wonder they act up.

I look upon the finger pointing at the parents as a way to get around the fact that the school system has failed. Talk to minority grandparents in the Urban areas and they will tell you that they got a better education in the 60s than their grandchildren get today.

We can't change the Parents. But we can change the system and the Teacher's Unions that stand in the way of making it work. Although it is very hard to do that. In most cases, it will have to get worse before people are willing to take the steps needed to make it better.
