i guess i do not understand. if they are in this country and maybe second generation they grew up with christmas songs and perhaps took part in gifts etc. Now americans relocated to another country and their off spring were mixing with local kids etc i expect over time they would celebrate that nations holidays. No one is trying to convert anyone. If someone says merry christmas i believe the majority of people do not think of the religious background associated with it. I find it hard to believe families who do not believe in a God.... do not celebrate with a tree and gifts at Christmas.. How do you explain to your kids we not celebrating the holidays? If you really want to keep your kids from the excitement i expect you could.

Serving midnight mass as a kid.. i remember the church full and all the drunks showing up.. I doubt we ever saw them except for some reason at Christmas.. I really think they were out celebrating and perhaps the only reason they were in church was flash backs to childhood days.
