Ford to launch IKON in 3 variants in India

NEW DELHI, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Company's (NYSE:F - news) Indian unit said on Tuesday its mid-sized IKON car will be launched in three variants in the Indian market.
``The Ford IKON will be launched in three variants, two petrol models 1.6 ZXi and CLXi, and one diesel model, 1.8ZXi,' the company said in a statement.
The ex-showroom New Delhi price of the 1.6 CLXi petrol model will be 499,589 rupees ($11,516), the 1.6 ZXi model will be 572,210 rupees and the 1.8 ZXi diesel model will be 647,564 rupees.
Ford officials had earlier set a sales target of 20,000 IKON cars in 2000. The car will be produced at the new Maraimalai Nagar plant near the southern city of Madras.
The IKON is scheduled to be launched in the local market in November, the company had said.
Ford has so far invested over 17 billion rupees in its Indian operations. It began by selling the locally-assembled Escort model in 1996.
