Bob,

Thank you for pointing out my inconsistency.

"MicroDesign Resources estimates the P55C costs $55 to manufacture, while the K6 costs $70"

This was old news from 1-2 quarters ago. Since then, we have learnt a lot more pieces of information. For Q3, I estimated a K6's cost at $120+ and P5/MMX at $40-. For Q4, if AMD really can produce 2M good pieces, the cost would be around $70. Again, this is just my estimate (learnt from Patient Engineer), no hype but analysis based on a few pieces of published facts. At such a big cost difference, don't you think 3-4 and 4-5 are close enough?

Regarding the extra unexpected loss this quarter, could it be the fact that AMD has contracted out all non-K6 products. At 6,000 wafers/week, you just cannot produce anything else given that Fab 25 still ramping up.

John.
