Hiya... The problem on these !@#$% advanced technology Ultra-CDMA drives and variable - spin CD's is that they use up to 65% CPU utilization when they are in use and spin up... Also, they "spin down" continually so when you need them, you have to wait 2-3 seconds for either the CD ROM or the Hard Disk to come back... People BLAME Windows or NT but it's these bloody IDE super standards that kill performance on these PC's... So if you buy a crapola Celeron, Imachines or Kdawg62/63 TM P. Engel, or a "free PC", you get what you pay for (slow like molasses in January..........)... Hello now, even high-end PC's are having trouble keep up with these IDE and Ultra-DMA standards.... CPU utilization on a SCSI Drive with card is about 1-3%, because all processing is done on the SCSI card, off-loaded from the CPU.... IDE, the CPU does it all... I miss my SCSI Box.... Take care Jean P.S. I have 1 SCSI server left, with SCSI devices and IDE deactivated, and it's an overclocked 442Mhz Celeron 300A. It's fast on SPIN-UP than My Ultra-DMA PII 500. Take care Jean
